Stithians reservoir was created between 1962 and 1967 and has a surface area of 270 acres. It is reputedly one of the best inland lakes for windsurfing in the region and also offers sailing and fly fishing. Beneath the water are some 20 farmsteads and several cottages – in times of drought some of the old hedges and gateposts with their original hangings are exposed, virtually intact.
